Chilli Jalapeno - Capsicum annuum
Jalapeno is a productive and versatile chilli variety producing thick walled, medium hot fruits with a crisp texture and distinctive flavour. The fruits are usually harvested while green, although they can be left on the plant to mature and develop a deeper colour and stronger flavour. Ideal for fresh cooking, salsas, sauces, pickling and preserving.
Packet Quantity: 30 seeds

Rich, fertile and well drained soil enriched with compost or well rotted manure. Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging.

Start seeds in seed trays or small pots and transplant when seedlings reach approximately 7 to 10 cm tall. Space plants 30 cm apart.
Germination Time:
10 to 14 days. Keep the seed raising mix warm and consistently moist during germination.
Harvest Time:
Approximately 12 to 14 weeks from sowing, depending on growing conditions.
Growing Tips
Sow seeds in seed raising mix and keep them warm and moist while germinating. Once seedlings are established and have reached around 7 to 10 cm tall, transplant them into their final growing position.
Chillies perform best in warm conditions with plenty of sunlight. Plant into fertile, well drained soil and protect young plants from cold temperatures.
Keep plants consistently watered during flowering and fruit development. Avoid overwatering, as poorly drained soil can lead to root problems.
Feed regularly with a suitable vegetable or tomato fertiliser once plants are established to encourage healthy growth and fruit production.
Harvest Jalapenos while green for the traditional mild to medium hot flavour, or leave them on the plant longer to mature and develop a deeper colour and more intense flavour.
Pick fruits regularly as they mature to encourage the plant to continue producing new fruit.
Take care when handling the fruit, as chilli oils can irritate the skin and eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling and avoid touching your eyes.
