Pumpkin Golden Nugget is a compact bush variety that is well suited to smaller gardens and containers. It produces an abundance of medium sized pumpkins with bright golden orange skin and rich orange flesh. The compact growth habit makes it a practical choice where space is limited, while the fruits are excellent for roasting, baking, soups and other pumpkin dishes.

Planting Instructions

Sowing Time:
Spring and Summer. In warmer areas, sowing can also be extended into early Autumn.

Position:
Full sun. Choose a warm position with plenty of sunlight and enough room for the plant to spread.

Soil:
Rich, fertile and well drained soil. Incorporate plenty of compost or well rotted manure before planting.

Sowing Depth:
12 mm

Spacing:
45 cm between groups and 100 cm between rows.

Germination Time:
6 to 10 days.

Harvest Time:
Approximately 14 weeks from sowing.

Growing Tips

Prepare the soil well before planting by incorporating compost or well rotted manure. Pumpkins are hungry plants and perform best in fertile soil with plenty of organic matter.

Sow directly into the final position once the soil has warmed. Sow 2 to 3 seeds together, then thin to the strongest 2 seedlings once they are established.

Keep plants well watered throughout the growing season, particularly during flowering and fruit development. Water deeply and consistently rather than allowing the soil to repeatedly dry out.

The compact bush habit makes Golden Nugget suitable for smaller gardens and large containers. Allow enough room around the plant for the foliage and developing pumpkins.

Pinch out the growing tips once the plant reaches the 5 to 6 leaf stage to encourage a more compact growth habit and help direct energy towards fruit production.

Harvest when the vine begins to die back and the fruit stalks become dry and brittle. Allow the pumpkins to mature fully on the plant for the best storage quality.

After harvesting, store pumpkins in a cool, dry and well ventilated place.
